Traffic Engineer (Full-time, hybrid schedule)

Rossi Group is seeking a creative and motivated Traffic Engineer to join our engineering team. The ideal candidate will be a registered Professional Engineer with about five years of experience in traffic engineering. Our traffic engineers are responsible for working in teams on all aspects of the profession, including planning, analysis, and design. They are focused and dedicated with strong attention to detail. You will work on multiple projects simultaneously and ensure high-quality deliverables. You will coordinate with varying teams of in-house professional engineers and planners as well as private, municipal, and state government clients.

This is a full-time, hybrid schedule position with your choice of reporting location in our Maryland or Dover offices. Our client base is in Delaware, Maryland, and Pennsylvania. To provide exceptional service to our clients and each other, we have frequent in-person meetings, offer on-site client support at times, and are available for field work on short notice.

Position Responsibilities 

This position may include a variety of opportunities based on the firm’s needs as well as the candidate’s interest and background:

  • Traffic operational analysis for assignments like studies and transportation management plans

  • Design of ITS devices, signals, pavement markings, and signing

  • Support for innovative ITS planning and program management

Qualifications/Skills

  • Bachelor of science in civil engineering

  • Professional Engineer registration

  • Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) (preferred)

  • Five years of traffic engineering experience (though we will carefully consider candidates with more experience for more senior positions)

  • Valid Driver’s License and the ability to provide own transportation to meetings and site visits

  • Ability to travel to client sites with same-day notice within Delaware, Pennsylvania, and Maryland

  • Strong and effective spoken and written (English) communication skills

  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, public officials and other government agencies, clients, and consultants

  • Ability to effectively utilize MicroStation, HCS, Synchro, Vissim, Cube

  • Ability to work independently and balance and prioritize workload

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions 

  • Work is generally performed in an indoor office setting

  • Working from a job site office or on-site at a client office may be necessary

  • Field work would include physical visual inspection of project sites; walking project sites and/or driving project sites; working outdoors, walking on uneven ground of construction sites; lifting objects of 20 pounds

  • Occasional project-dependent evening and weekend meetings
