Traffic Engineer (Full-time, hybrid schedule)

Rossi Group is seeking a highly motivated and multi-talented mid-level Traffic Engineer to join our growing engineering team in Dover, Delaware or Hunt Valley, Maryland. This position requires an individual to be proficient in traffic engineering design, performing traffic studies, analysis, and modeling. The qualified individual would serve as Task Manager on a variety of community and multi-modal transportation projects on behalf of our clients in Delaware and Maryland, and throughout the mid-Atlantic. 

You will work on multiple projects simultaneously and ensure high-quality deliverables. You will coordinate with varying teams of in-house professional scientists, planners, and engineers as well as private, municipal, and state government clients.

Position Responsibilities 

  • Perform and review Traffic Impact Studies, Signal Warrants, IAPA, and Safety Studies

  • Perform traffic analysis, modeling, and traffic engineering studies using HCS, Synchro, Vissim, Cube  

  • Traffic control device design and cost estimates (signing, marking, ITS, signal, MOT, detour) for pedestrian/bicycle, roadway, and utility projects

  • Acting as the support or lead traffic engineer for pedestrian/bicycle, roadway, and utility projects

  • Collaborating with other engineers and planners to develop and design safety, intersection, multi-modal, and streetscape improvements 

  • Prepare technical reports and memos

  • Participate in stakeholder and public meetings

  • Provide proposal support and develop work plans

  • Coordinate projects within the project team and with client agencies and stakeholders

Qualifications/Skills

  • Bachelor or Master of Science in Civil Engineering

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant traffic engineering experience

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in DE and/or MD

  • Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) (preferred)

  • Experience with Maryland and Delaware agencies and standards

  • Strong and effective spoken and written (English) communication skills, including the ability to prepare and present clear, concise reports, plans, data, and information to public officials, professional peers, and clients

  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, public officials and other government agencies, clients, and consultants

  • Positive attitude and ability to work independently or as part of a team

  • Ability to effectively utilize software for word processing, spreadsheets, and publication (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Adobe)

  • Ability to effectively utilize MicroStation, HCS, Synchro, Vissim, Cube

  • Ability to work independently and balance and prioritize workload

  • Valid Driver’s License and the ability to provide own transportation to meetings and site visits

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions 

  • Work is generally performed in an indoor office setting

  • Working from a job site office or on-site at a client office may be necessary

  • Field work would include physical visual inspection of project sites; walking project sites and/or driving project sites; working outdoors, walking on uneven ground of construction sites; lifting objects of 20 pounds

  • Occasional project-dependent evening and weekend meetings
