Senior Construction Inspector
Reporting Location: Abingdon, MD
Position Type: Full-Time/Regular
Rossi Group is seeking a motivated senior inspector with roadway and/or structures experience for the Northbound I-95 ETL Extension projects. Reporting location will be the Abingdon, Harford County, MD project office.
This is a Non-Exempt; full-time; 40 hours per week; (Monday through Friday) position. Overtime and nighttime work is anticipated. This position offers a competitive salary commensurate with experience, certifications, and abilities. Nighttime differential is paid.

Type of Work
This position is for a senior-level position performing construction inspection, monitoring and documentation, materials testing, and oversite. The ideal candidate has 6-10 years of experience inspecting construction and roadway maintenance projects, maintenance operations, soil and material testing, engineering computations and documentation. Position requires knowledge and performing basic construction principles, practices and methods, construction standards, inspection methods and techniques, basic mathematics used in engineering design, drawing and drafting, Temporary Traffic Control Standards, and Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, Federal Highway Regulations AASHTO and ASTM test specifications.
Education / Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent

Valid Maryland or Delaware Driver’s License

At least 6 years of construction or inspection experience

OSHA 10-hour training
-
OSHA silica safety training is a plus

Ability to learn new computer skills and data processing procedures

Ability to interpret and analyze contract documents, plans, and specifications

Ability to perform basic mathematical computations used in civil construction
-
Ability to maintain records and adapt record systems for computerization

Ability to provide own transportation

Available for nighttime, evening/weekend hours as needed

Ability to achieve certification in field testing procedures in concrete, soil aggregate, Hot Mix Asphalt, National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET) certification, American Society for Non-Destructive Testing Level I Certification, or other in-house or state-sponsored certifications.
Preference May Be Given For

Experience working with Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) or Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA)

Experience working with Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT)
Essential Duties and Position Responsbilities

Inspect contractor work according to plans and specifications

Inspect materials used by contractors on on-site and document compliance with specifications

Read and interpret construction plans for structures, bridges, and roadways with an understanding of construction specifications, engineering tables and reference materials

Perform tests for specification compliance

Document pay quantities for estimates

Document control and understanding payment procedures is a plus

Physical Requirements / Working Conditions

Employees are required to work in the field during survey and inspection assignments, with exposure to varying weather conditions and rough terrain, and the requirements for walking, standing, bending, and lifting loads weighing up to 80 pounds

Work requires close proximity to traffic on Maryland highways

Required hand-eye coordination for the efficient operation of computers and other office machines, survey equipment, and field equipment
