Director of Transportation Engineering (Full-time, hybrid schedule)
Hunt Valley, MD, Dover, DE, or Wilmington, DE
Rossi Group is looking for a strong leader to deliver highway and multi-modal transportation engineering services, collaborate with stakeholders, and meet our clients’ expectations. This role will be responsible for managing project teams of highway engineers, traffic engineers and planners; maintaining and building client relationships; and leading project activities. The qualified engineer will direct and coordinate internal and external technical disciplines to create high-quality deliverables and will report directly to our President. A comprehensive understanding of highway engineering and planning principles, theories, concepts, and industry practices are a necessity. Projects include the planning and engineering design of highway, intersection, pedestrian/bicycle facilities, sidewalk, complete streets and streetscape projects including the related water resources, traffic, transit, utility, and landscape architecture activities. Relevant technical experience includes highway geometric design, cost estimating, quantity development, and specification writing.
Staff and business management experience is highly desirable. Business development knowledge and client relationships within the region will be considered an additional positive attribute. A vital component of this position is creating high value projects, meeting client schedules, ensuring quality, and teaching and training coworkers. Our geographic focus is Delaware, Maryland, and Pennsylvania.
Responsibilities:

Supervise and lead technical work performed by transportation engineers and planners

Mentor junior technical staff and guide their professional development

Keep clients satisfied to ensure repeat business

Deliver high-quality products and services within established schedules and budgets

Participate in public meetings for projects

Create and update a complete project plan, including scope, schedule, budget, and resources

Review and approve accurate and timely invoices

Communicate with clients, team members, and external stakeholders

Define new business opportunities and present to Vice President and President

Advocate for additional projects, and offer clients solutions

Manage production efficiency and execute quality control procedures

Support or lead proposal and pursuit efforts
Minimum Qualifications:
-
Ability to travel to client project sites and offices within the tri-state area of Delaware, Maryland, and Pennsylvania (required)

Bachelor of Science in civil engineering (required)
-
Professional Engineer (PE) license (required)
-
Minimum of 15 years’ relevant design and management experience (required)

Knowledge of Microstation, OpenRoads, AutoTurn, Office365 (required)

Valid driver’s license (required)
-
Effective written and oral communication skills (required)

Experience with state and local engineering clients (e.g. DelDOT, PennDOT, MDOT)

Experience serving and being active in professional organizations (e.g. ACEC, ASHE, etc.)
Anticipated Wage and Benefits:
Rossi Group provides full benefits including matching 401k and profit sharing. This position offers an anticipated salary range of $155k+ depending on experience, certifications, and abilities.
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:

Work is generally performed in an indoor office setting

Working from a job site office may be necessary

Fieldwork would include physical visual inspection of project sites; walking project sites and/or driving project sites; working outdoors, walking on uneven ground of construction sites; lifting objects of 20 pounds
